Hyperbolic knitting - or, how yarny crafters can explain the universe.

You always knew we could, didn't you? :)

Check this out. Apparently there is a partnership between some mathematicians, physicists and knitters/crocheters to model every possible spatial form. Knitting and crochet are the only media that can do this - because, as you know, you can make any shape you can imagine just by adding, subtracting, skipping, or wrapping stitches.

How wicked rad is that??

Look at this page - click on the first orange link on the right, "gallery of crocheted hyperbolic models." The "crochet hyperbolic reef" gallery is pretty amazing too - they can recreate entire, completely accurate coral reef models with crochet techniques.
